Information
Some things are obvious in Chrono Cross. Some aren't. That's why this section is here.

What does the Chrono Cross element do anyway?
The Chrono Cross element has two uses. One is to get the 'good' ending, by using it on the final boss (for details, see #2). Also, when used in battle, it will recharge any used elements and allow you to use them a second time. (Similar to the Recharge element, but the Chrono Cross element affects all elements, on all 3 characters.)

How do I get the 'good' ending?
Though it's vaguely hinted at late in the game (in Terra Tower and by the Chrono Trigger kids), it's tricky to actually grasp how exactly it all works. Even more tricky to pull it off. What you're presented with is the colors yellow, red, green, blue, black, white, in that order. If you equip the Chrono Cross and cast an element in battle, you'll notice each color makes a different sound, and an orb of that color will appear at the top of the screen. As you probably have gathered by now, the key to winning the battle is to cast elements of the appropriate color in that order. Which is easier said than done. While there are multiple ways to go about this, this was my strategy:

Obviously, you'll want to equip the Chrono Cross element on Serge (whether it NEEDS to be in a level 8 slot or not I'm not certain, but let's just put it there). You'll want to then equip lots of Level 1 elements on your characters like this: Character 1: yellow & blue; Character 2: red & black; Character 3: green & white. Attack to get your element level to 8, then defend until your stamina is full. Have character 1 cast a yellow element, followed by #2 using red. Have #3 attack and/or defend to refill the others' stamina somewhat. At this point, the TimeDevourer will cast a yellow element to try and throw you off. All you have to do now is finish the sequence by casting red, green, blue, black, and white. Once all six are done, get Serge's element level back to 8 and use the Chrono Cross. Chances are you may be interrupted at some point and have to start again. That's why it helps to have a lot of similarly-colored elements in your level 1 slots.

Once that's done, enjoy one of the best music tracks in the game and watch the bizarre credits.

How do I make Rainbow equipment?
The first step is to obtain the Master Hammer in Home Marbule (after it becomes re-inhabited that is, which happens after defeating FATE). Go into the cave where the Black Dragon used to sleep and one of the guys there will sell it to you for 10,000 G. Equip this on Zappa, and go talk to the other Zappa in Another world with him in your party. Now that you have the ability to MAKE the Rainbow stuff, you need the materials to do so. Of course you'll need a Rainbow Shell for each item. The other hard-to-get ones are 'shiny' materials. There's a 'shiny' material to correspond with each element (Red: Shiny Ember, Green: Shiny Leaf, etc.). Some items can be disassembled to get these, but there's another easier way. By finishing off enemies in battle with a summon element, they'll be turned into a shiny material of the appropriate color (ie, destroy them with Salamander, they'll turn into Shiny Embers). Each Rainbow weapon also requires a few other more common materials too, but those are far easier to obtain. Oh, and Rainbow equipment costs a whole lot of G, so be sure to have a lot.
